School’s Out: Prevent Child Pedestrian Injuries

June 30, 2022 by henley.tabal

Pedestrian accidents are serious and heartbreaking events, especially when they involve children. Now that schools are closed, it’s a good time to remind parents and other drivers on the road how to prevent child pedestrian injuries. By embracing these tips, you can protect yourself from a personal injury claim. More importantly, parents can ensure that their children are safe out there.

Driver Awareness

When schools are not in session, it’s easy for drivers to overlook the designated speed limits. In some cases, they might not even be careful when driving past crosswalks. However, drivers need to stay alert to avoid pedestrian accidents. For instance, they should avoid getting distracted when on the wheel. Driving slowly in areas where there are kids is also essential.

Drivers should also be aware that they are responsible for pedestrian safety. It’s their duty to watch out for pedestrians, especially in areas where children might be present.

Children don’t always follow the rules. There are times when they cross the road without checking the signs or using crosswalks. Drivers should be keen when driving on residential streets, playgrounds, parks, and school zones.

Following the set speed limits is a must. Whether in areas with pedestrian traffic or school zones, drivers should always follow speed limits.

Parent Precautions

Parents should also consider the following tips to protect their kids from careless and distracted drivers.

While children might be taught the basic safety tips in school, parents should reinforce these tips by training their kids. Children should be trained to be careful when crossing the street. They should also be cautious when using crosswalks. There are incidents where drivers are distracted and might cause an accident. These simple tips should help your child stay alert and safe from any possible accidents.

Your child’s safety is our number one priority. In case your child is involved in a pedestrian accident, feel free to talk to us. We at McPhillips, Fitzgerald & Cullum take such accidents seriously, and we strive to ensure that reckless drivers are held liable for any damages caused.
